Understanding the Voucher Code Maze
December 1st, 2009As 2009 draws to a close I think any of us who work in affiliate marketing can say with a high degree of certainty that voucher coding has been the most talked about phenomenon of the year.
As a network we’re endeavouring to give our merchants as much information as possible about this whole issue so they can make their own considered judgments about whether they choose to issue codes and if so how best to manage and monitor them.
With that in mind we have produced a pretty chunky case study in conjunction with our friends at vouchercodes.co.uk based on some promotional activity from the past year.
Vouchercodes.co.uk is an instrumental part of the voucher industry and as such we hope the information provided will be of real use to our merchants.
You may have already seen the document we produced but if you’re a merchant or advertiser who’d like a copy then please drop us an email and we’ll send you the link.

Any chance of releasing it to affiliates too?
Cheers

Hi,
At the moment we’re only distributing the document to our merchants and agencies as some of the information contained in it could compromise vouchercodes.co.uk if it was more widely distributed to affiliates.
We are however looking at conducting additional network wide research in 2010 on voucher codes that we’ll be happy to distribute to everyone.

Ah, so what you are saying is that this document is just a secret advert for Vouchercodes.co.uk. The use of the term “Our friends Vouchercodes.co.uk” says a great deal.
How hard would it be to black out the compromising parts of the document. Not releasing this document to the affiliate community will be construed as proof that it’s an affiliate window endorsed advert.

John,
Case studies are common for any company to produce and in this instance we developed it further to address a number of issues that have been raised over the past couple of years regarding their management.
The decision to produce this in conjunction with vouchercodes.co.uk came as a result of a conversation with them and a willingness by them to share data with merchants about how, if used carefully and monitored closely, voucher codes can be an extremely effective driver of sales for some merchants.
It’s because the document contains some data that vouchercodes.co.uk did not want to share with a wider audience that it has only been released to merchants and agencies.
