Tools of the Trade: Co-Branded Landing Pages

September 22nd, 2008

Over the last 18 months we’ve brought on board some premium affiliates who have large numbers of signed up members, regular visitors and loyal users. One way in which you can make the most of these partners is to provide co-branded or exclusive landing pages.

Often what these affiliate partners are looking for is an exclusive offer that they can present to their members or visitors. The offer can be anything from a discounted product available at a lower price than currently on the site, money off or access to a discount code. By using a co-branded landing page this ensures the offer remains exclusive as other affiliates won’t link to it and normal site visitors will not be see the page.

Some excellent examples of this are the Buyagift co-branded page with The Sun and Getting Personal’s with My Voucher Codes:

The exclusive discount allows visitors to The Sun Shop site 10% off even the standard on-site price.

The inclusion of a code allows visitors to redeem the offer, and the bespoke URL ensures it is kept exclusive. It also needn’t be kept to just one affiliate, Getting Personal are always happy to offer similar exclusive deals to others.

The benefits of such a scheme are that you may be able to negotiate better coverage and exposure from the affiliate, favourable positioning on site and enjoy a closer working relationship with them. You should also find that it has a positive effect on conversion as shoppers can see it’s the best deal available, they’re getting money off or being given a one-off offer.

The way you can implement a co-branded landing page is either as a separate page, where the URL is given exclusively to the affiliate in question, or by using local cookies so that prices or details are changed out of session as well as for that visit.
