It’s people that make change happen

Yes OK, it’s nice that a UK business has been successful enough to buy a big expensive .com domain, but the press release (below) from Media Ltd (formally Formula Digital) is actually far more exciting than just the announcement of a new URL.

When the affiliate industry was in its infancy innovation was, by definition, an everyday thing. However 10 years later we have many established and significant companies operating in the sector and innovation can (and perhaps has) become a less radical process.

With this deal comes Bill Gross, the man behind ; Picasa, Overture, credited as the creator of the PPC model and an investor in Commission Junction. media has reengaged Gross with the affiliate world and I for one think that together they will embark on some radical and different things that could bring about change within the industry. After all we can genuinely ask the question. “Where would Google be without Bill Gross?” So we can now ask “Where will Affiliate Marketing go with him?”

    Relationships Fused at Online Electronics Event

    Yesterday saw yet another fantastic sector specific event hosted by the leading UK affiliate networks; Affiliate Window and LiveWire proved to be an incredible opportunity for merchants and affiliates within the consumer electronics sector to discuss relevant industry related topics and listen to new developments in an informal and relaxed environment. Attendees included, Quidco, Comet, Skimlinks, Dixons, M&S, PrismaStar, Asda, Littlewoods, Sky, TopCashback, Sainsburys, John Lewis and QVC, just to name a few.

    The day began with presentations from industry experts including Michael Houlihan from Reevoo examining the influence of consumer reviews on a user’s choice, Mark MacDonald from Skimlinks showcasing tenuous trends for 2010, Richard Holway from TechMarketView presenting his 2020 Vision discussing how the next decade for the internet will be highly disruptive for users, the industry and its main players, and finally, Kevin Edwards, Strategy Director at Digital Window providing an in-depth analysis into the key metrics for a typical electrical affiliate programme.

    Following the presentations was a “speed networking” session with affiliates having two minutes to speak to each individual merchant with the aim of facilitating as many introductions as possible. The idea of forging new business relationships and solidifying existing ones proved to be a success.

    The event continued with guests sharing insights on the latest digital developments within the electronics industry and a Q&A panel discussing an assortment of hot topics within affiliate marketing. Attendees with an addiction for film and gaming consoles were enthralled with the exclusive Sky 3D demonstration exhibited throughout the day.

    Mark Macdonald from Skimlinks commented “Awin’s Livewire event was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with some of the biggest consumer electronics retailers online. Kevin Edwards shared some fascinating insights into the performance of electrical programs that will be hugely useful for us. A well oiled, fun day. More please!”

    a4uAwards 2010: Account Manager Nominees

    It’s A4U Awards season and there has been quite a flurry of calls, emails, boxes of chocolates and even one roll of used bank notes (shame they had been taken out of an old Monopoly set) from individuals canvassing for votes. I say “Why not!?” It’s the innovative and proactive nature of the finalists that earned them their nominations. So I’d like to (sort of) join the band wagon and remind you all that Julie Wood, Aga Marchewka and Chantal Williams have all been nominated in the Best Account Manager at a Network category.

    Julie Wood –Julie’s phone, MSN and email rings, pings and beeps with requests from affiliates and merchants, new and old contacts from across the industry, all seeking advice on how something works and how it can be improved. Julie has such a wealth of knowledge she can (and does) always provide a prompt, constructive and insightful answer, which I am certain is why she has been nominated for this award.

    Aga Marchewka – in the short time that Aga has been working within the Affiliate Window offices it is apparent that Aga really goes out of her way to assist people around her. I have heard nothing but praise for her and I quote directly “Aga is passionate about working with affiliates and gets a real buzz out of introducing new and exciting affiliate opportunities to colleagues and merchants, as well as seeing results from the hard work affiliates put into promotions on the network.”

    Chantal Williams – Chantal’s engaging enthusiasm for her clients means she can champion their interests effectively and positively encourage affiliates to work closely with her. In an industry where very little stays the same Chantal is phased by nothing, taking everything in her stride, coming out the other side with a smile and a new opportunity for merchants and affiliates.

    Habitat Launches Exclusively with Digital Window

    Habitat, the international household furnishings retailer has launched an exclusive affiliate marketing programme with Digital Window.

    In January 2009, Habitat began creating a fully transactional website to penetrate the online shopping market which launched in November 2009. Managed by bigmouthmedia, the multi-award winning digital marketing agency, the Habitat affiliate campaign will reap the benefits of launching on both Affiliate Window and platforms simultaneously to offer access to the programme to a variety of preferred partners.
