It’s people that make change happen

Top10.com
Yes OK, it’s nice that a UK business has been successful enough to buy a big expensive .com domain, but the press release (below) from Top10.com Media Ltd (formally Formula Digital) is actually far more exciting than just the announcement of a new URL.

When the affiliate industry was in its infancy innovation was, by definition, an everyday thing. However 10 years later we have many established and significant companies operating in the sector and innovation can (and perhaps has) become a less radical process.

With this deal comes Bill Gross, the man behind ; Picasa, Overture, credited as the creator of the PPC model and an investor in Commission Junction. Top10.com media has reengaged Gross with the affiliate world and I for one think that together they will embark on some radical and different things that could bring about change within the industry. After all we can genuinely ask the question. “Where would Google be without Bill Gross?” So we can now ask “Where will Affiliate Marketing go with him?”

Press release extract…

Relationships Fused at Online Electronics Event

Written by Lisa Chaikin on . Posted in Events, Network News, PR & Press Releases

Yesterday saw yet another fantastic sector specific event hosted by the leading UK affiliate networks; Affiliate Window and buy.at. LiveWire proved to be an incredible opportunity for merchants and affiliates within the consumer electronics sector to discuss relevant industry related topics and listen to new developments in an informal and relaxed environment. Attendees included Play.com, Quidco, Comet, Skimlinks, Dixons, M&S, PrismaStar, Asda, Littlewoods, Sky, TopCashback, Sainsburys, John Lewis and QVC, just to name a few.

The day began with presentations from industry experts including Michael Houlihan from Reevoo examining the influence of consumer reviews on a user’s choice, Mark MacDonald from Skimlinks showcasing tenuous trends for 2010, Richard Holway from TechMarketView presenting his 2020 Vision discussing how the next decade for the internet will be highly disruptive for users, the industry and its main players, and finally, Kevin Edwards, Strategy Director at Digital Window providing an in-depth analysis into the key metrics for a typical electrical affiliate programme.

Following the presentations was a “speed networking” session with affiliates having two minutes to speak to each individual merchant with the aim of facilitating as many introductions as possible. The idea of forging new business relationships and solidifying existing ones proved to be a success.

The event continued with guests sharing insights on the latest digital developments within the electronics industry and a Q&A panel discussing an assortment of hot topics within affiliate marketing. Attendees with an addiction for film and gaming consoles were enthralled with the exclusive Sky 3D demonstration exhibited throughout the day.

Mark Macdonald from Skimlinks commented “Awin’s Livewire event was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with some of the biggest consumer electronics retailers online. Kevin Edwards shared some fascinating insights into the performance of electrical programs that will be hugely useful for us. A well oiled, fun day. More please!”

David Moritz from Dixons Store Group added “Livewire provided DSGi with a great opportunity to meet our much valued affiliates and discuss how we can work together to drive the program forward.”

Photos from the day are available on the Affiliate Window and Buy.at Facebook pages.

    a4uAwards 2010: Account Manager Nominees

Written by Kirsty Grimes on . Posted in Network News, PerformanceIN

It’s A4U Awards season and there has been quite a flurry of calls, emails, boxes of chocolates and even one roll of used bank notes (shame they had been taken out of an old Monopoly set) from individuals canvassing for votes. I say “Why not!?” It’s the innovative and proactive nature of the finalists that earned them their nominations. So I’d like to (sort of) join the band wagon and remind you all that Julie Wood, Aga Marchewka and Chantal Williams have all been nominated in the Best Account Manager at a Network category.

L-R Julie Wood, Aga Marchewka and Chantal Williams

Julie Wood –Julie’s phone, MSN and email rings, pings and beeps with requests from affiliates and merchants, new and old contacts from across the industry, all seeking advice on how something works and how it can be improved. Julie has such a wealth of knowledge she can (and does) always provide a prompt, constructive and insightful answer, which I am certain is why she has been nominated for this award.

Aga Marchewka – in the short time that Aga has been working within the Affiliate Window offices it is apparent that Aga really goes out of her way to assist people around her. I have heard nothing but praise for her and I quote directly “Aga is passionate about working with affiliates and gets a real buzz out of introducing new and exciting affiliate opportunities to colleagues and merchants, as well as seeing results from the hard work affiliates put into promotions on the buy.at network.”

Chantal Williams – Chantal’s engaging enthusiasm for her clients means she can champion their interests effectively and positively encourage affiliates to work closely with her. In an industry where very little stays the same Chantal is phased by nothing, taking everything in her stride, coming out the other side with a smile and a new opportunity for merchants and affiliates.

Written by Lisa Chaikin on . Posted in Network News, PR & Press Releases

The high-quality, affordable travel retailer, lowcostholidays has consolidated their affiliate programme to work exclusively with Affiliate Window. Providing consumers with access to over 60 million holiday options updated daily, owcostholidays was voted the best tour operator-agent website in 2009 by Travolution, over the likes of Thomson, Thomas Cook and STA Travel. With over 300,000 customers harnessing their services within the past year, lowcostholidays has solidified their position as the hub for bargain travel planning and Affiliate Window look forward to expanding upon the well-established programme.

Hannah Pitman from lowcostholidays commented: “Relationships with our affiliates are very important to us; by consolidating our affiliate activity to one network it allows us to manage these relationships more closely. Affiliate Window is dedicated to helping us improve these partnerships and constantly focus their energies on maximising the potential of our publishers. For this reason, as well as many more, we are very happy to be entering this exclusive agreement.”

Katherine Eames, Account Manager at Affiliate Window added: “The lowcostholidays programme has gone from strength to strength, which can mainly be attributed to their positive attitude towards the affiliate channel. The team is always willing to entertain new opportunities and works closely with their network to effectively implement ideas with their publishers.

Their decision to work with Affiliate Window exclusively demonstrates their faith in us and marks the beginning of another exciting phase for the programme. We will continue to offer affiliates transparency, flexibility and responsiveness as well as working on even more targeted strategy. Our aim is to utilise the strong relationships we have built with affiliates to really get the most from the improvements and new resources that LCH are working towards; including new commission groups, additional incentives and API access to an expanded product feed.”

    Digital Window Acquires Buy.at

Written by Sam Surry on . Posted in Network News

London-based Digital Window creates UK’s largest affiliate marketing network.

Digital Window today acquired Newcastle-based Perfiliate Ltd., which operates one of the leading affiliate marketing networks under the brand name Buy.at. Together Digital Window and Buy.at form Britain’s largest performance-based marketing group, serving customers in the UK, USA and Scandinavia. Buy.at was previously part of AOL Inc.

Kevin Brown, CEO of Digital Window: “This transaction is a milestone not only for Digital Window, but also for the performance marketing industry as a whole. Both companies already excel in the areas of service, ethics and technology. Joining forces enables us to harness the passion and creativity of both businesses to the benefit of all our partners.

This transaction forms a group that offers the best and most comprehensive affiliate marketing services in the UK. Combining the two most forward thinking networks allows us to develop market defining technology. With innovations like ShopWindow, Offer Central, Darwin and EventEngine combined under one network, our partners receive a distinct technology advantage that we will continue to evolve over time.

The pioneering spirit of Buy.at and the exceptional growth of Digital Window jointly demonstrate the commitment to service and performance, factors which remain as cornerstones of our network promise. Our customers can rest assured that current contracts and service agreements will be upheld and maintained to our partners’ full satisfaction.

Both networks consist of the most talented affiliate marketing staff – there is nothing we cannot achieve together for our clients and partners.”

In 2009 a majority stake of Digital Window was bought by the German-based media group Axel Springer AG and the Swiss-based communications group Publigroupe S.A. who also own Berlin’s Zanox AG, continental Europe’s largest performance-based online marketing network. As a group Zanox, Digital Window and Buy.at form Europe’s market leader in affiliate marketing.
