AW Merchants arrange contingency plans during the Postal Strike

Written by Lisa Chaikin on . Posted in Network News

As postal strikes across the country continue to threaten online Christmas shopping, several AW merchants will be employing alternative methods of shipping in an effort to minimise disruption.

Click here for a list of merchants that are using various courier and substitute home delivery services while the postal strike resumes.

Several affiliates have raised concern over what impact this postal strike will have on their business so we advise all merchants to communicate their contingency plans via the news manager, the A4U forum and AW Offers Blog in an effort to keep your affiliates informed.

For accurate information on the current status of the postal strike, visit Royal Mail.

Affiliate Directory Coming Soon PLUS Double Your Chances to Win This Christmas

Written by Lisa Chaikin on . Posted in Network News

The next phase of Darwin’s evolution is just around the corner; within the next few months Affiliate Window plan to release the Affiliate Directory to merchants. Using the detailed information and categorisation provided by affiliates within their Darwin Profiles, the directory will allow merchants to search for specific affiliates and personally invite them to join their programme.

Only 100% completed Profiles will be included within the directory, so we advise all affiliates to update their information as soon as possible to ensure their inclusion from launch. This Profile acts as a platform for affiliates to showcase themselves to AW’s merchants; allowing them the ability to fully promote their affiliate business and highlight previous successes.

To further encourage affiliates to finish each section of their Profile, we have put an incentive in place. EVERY affiliate who completes their profile to 100% before Monday 30th November ’09 will DOUBLE their entries into the BIG Christmas Present draw; which means twice as many chances to choose a luxury holiday next year! If you are having any problems completing your Profile then read through our user guide.

If you have yet to open a Darwin account then all you need to do is fill in the application form here. Once you have your unique login details, you will be directed to the User Dashboard where you can create your Profile.

If you have any questions or would like further assistance, drop us a line at and one of the team will be happy to help.

The Latest AWin Tracking Improvements

Written by Lisa Chaikin on . Posted in Network News, Technology

We all know how dependent tracking technology is on cookies to identify and report affiliate driven sales. We also know that while cookies are still the best solution, they are not perfect. This is why Affiliate Window’s Software Development team continues to research methods to keep our tracking technology at the forefront of the industry.

Today, Affiliate Window is happy to announce the introduction of Flash Cookies and HTTP ETag technology that will enhance our current tracking solution. These additions will provide our merchants and affiliates with an even more robust tracking solution; resulting in fewer untracked sales and more accurate reporting. This technology is already utilised by some networks, however, current flash/ETag tracking requires a page to be loaded to the user’s browser between the affiliate and merchant sites (an interstitial). This makes the network tracking non-transparent from the user’s perspective which in our opinion has historically been the biggest drawback with these technologies. But with our solution, AWin Analytics negates the need for the interstitial page, meaning the tracking remains completely hidden from the user.

Flash Cookies

The major benefit of Flash cookies is that they are stored in a different location to normal text cookies and cannot be deleted by the browser. This means that Flash Cookies are more likely to be present for sales where the user has already deleted their normal cookies.

ETag data is stored in the browsers cache and remains separate from text and Flash cookies. This further increases our chance to correctly identify a sale as a user would need to completely clear their browser cache to make this option redundant.

Please visit the Affiliate Window Wiki for more information on how flash cookies and ETags work.

New merchants joining the network following this release will have Flash Cookies and Etag technology activated by default. Some time before Christmas all merchants already using AWin Analytics (as part of our current v3 tracking solution) will also see the activation of these new technologies. If you are an existing Affiliate Window merchant and would like to find out more about updating your current AW tracking then please e-mail us at

Sainsbury’s : The Online Trolley Dash Day

Written by Anjulie on . Posted in Events

Thursday 8th October 2009 – the big day – months of hard work and planning went into the Sainsbury’s launch incentives and last week we were finally able to sit back (perhaps not so much relax) and watch the much talked about Online Trolley Dash take place.

Sainsbury’s launched their first ever affiliate programme back in August, offering an array of prizes and incentives to welcome affiliates. The main prize was called the Online Trolley Dash, here’s a reminder of what this meant:

“One lucky winner will be invited to Sainsbury’s HQ and given a designated amount of time on the site to add as many products to their basket as they can. Their prize is the contents of the basket!

The ‘Online Trolley Dash’ competition will run from Monday 10th August to Friday 11th September 2009 inclusive and does not include grocery leads. Prizes will be awarded based on sales which are validated as ‘approved’. The ‘Online Trolley Dash’ competition winner will be chosen at random from all approved sales generated within the time frame. The more sales you make the higher your chances of being selected.”

The launch was a great success and a few weeks ago Anna Corp, Affiliate Manager at Sainsbury’s, was ready to randomly select a winner for the Dash….Congratulations to Laurence Wellman from HouseCharm.

So the day was picked and Laurence was invited to Sainsbury’s head offices. Lucy Hutchings – Account Manager, Julie Wood – Senior Partnerships Manager and myself arrived at Sainsbury’s head offices and who should we see sat in the lobby? None other than presenter and (ahem) celebrity Chris Evans! He was signing copies of his new book “It’s Not What You Think”. An opportunity not to be missed, it was definitely time for an (ahem again) celebrity snapshot to mark this momentous day.

When Laurence and his wife Alison arrived we reminded him of the ‘rules’ and he was set to go. The Dash itself consisted of two minutes on the Sainsbury’s site, where Laurence could pick as many items as possible in the designated time. A very exciting two minutes later and Laurence had won himself a tom tom, a laptop and a whole host of musical instruments including a drumkit, guitar and electric piano!

The afternoon was a fantastic opportunity to see the launch come to a close as the Sainsbury’s programme celebrates its two month ‘live’ anniversary this weekend. There’s so much more to come from Sainsbury’s – with appliances now onsite and tons more additional ranges planned…and of course it wouldn’t be Christmas without Sainsbury’s….

Best wishes,
